You may want to watch out for this
Got this in my email today. Pretty sloppy attempt if you ask me, but just thought I'd put it up here, so people know to watch out for this sort of thing.
Edit: Heh, ,thanks for that. I edited the pic in a hurry, forgot to black out my email.

And what websites have you provided your email to that knows you play Guild Wars? I doubt this is a random email, as they would not waste time sending this to people who don't have an account to steal. Perhaps it is a problem for a website that you need to notify them about an email going through based on thier site. That, or you are visiting sites that steal accounts, like gold sellers, 'hacks', and bots. I'd look more into WHY you got it than anything else. If they have your email, they may also have your computer infected with a keylogger, spyware, etc.

There's another thing people need to be just as wary about as their GW account: their Xunlai House account!
A working Xunlai House account holds the associated GW account name. If someone can get to that, they're halfway there.

Yea, I don't check that email account very often. And actually, that isn't the email id I use for either of my 3 GW accounts. That's the email id I used to correspond with Anet when I had technical issues with them through that form thing you have to submit.
Once, I did that because I had issues with their billing system for some in store purchases, and again because I had trouble getting a game account linked to a playNC account.
So, how they got it, idk. I don't really go to any other guild wars related website, except for Guru and Teamquitter.

That's pitiful.
~ <--- Who uses bullet points like these in formal mail?
~ PlayNC, a multi-million dollar business, using AOL as their mailing service. I don't even think AOL hate themselves enough to use AOL.
~ Missing full-stops
~ Missing capitals
~ Nasty grammar "your account is in danger become deleted"
~ Requesting password.
It doesn't bother me though because I just found out that I won the Canadian and Nigerian lotteries. When I pay the £10,000 transfer and accounting fees I'll be rich!

Very sloppy. the aol address and crappy grammar is a dead giveaway, but I do wonder how many people fall for this sort of thing. I mean come on, if anet lost your account how would they have your email to contact you.

Just another thing to point out since punctuation and everything else has been. Why would they use their bullet(even if it was a stupid icon to use for one) to bullet sincerely plaync. That and everyone knows that support are a bunch of a** holes and wouldn't be so cordial and say sincerely but more like go kill yourself we aren't going to help you even if it is a legitimate problem(sorry tangent).

there are plenty of people who WILL fall for this. all you have to do is go over to the tech forums and read some of the posts to know who they are (IE, the ones who ask very basic questions).
for most of us who frequent this forum, this stuff is easy to catch. unfortunately, a lot of people just don't know better.

If anyone is deceived by that, they DESERVE being deceived.
I'm not saying that is right to do that kind of scam, though.
Just look at that text! It's barely understandable English at all!

No one deserves to be scammed. Poor understanding of English (not everyone living in English-speaking countries are literate enough), and reading between lines which leads to not reading at all, is a common sympton of modern times.
Most of us wouldn't fall for such an obvious one, but social engineering works in such a way that we would fall for one, because for example of an "insider threat" (would you believe the content of this email if it came with a specific comment that sounds totally believable due to your own personal experience)?
The only real progress here is to teach people how to behave on the net, a real challenge in this day and age of "we know everything, please learn the Internet". Knowledge is power, wisdow is survival.
